R5: Ch. 11 MIddle Adulthood

The middle adult hood is what chapter 11 is about. Generally speaking this phase is when you start noticing more of your illnesses and are becoming more aware on how you have to take care of yourself. Ashford & LeCroy (2013) As adults mature and begin to think about their lives differently, becoming physically healthy often takes on greater importance (p. 550). This age you start noticing changes within yourself. Those changes can include menopause both for men and woman, hearing loss, False Memory Syndrome, the “midlife crisis” and even changing one way of feeling towards a situation. There is a saying that the older you get the wiser you get. I fully support that statement. I think as we get older we start to notice the bigger pictures on what is better for us and don’t waste time trying to second guess or actions. It is very important to start taking care of oneself to be able to live a longer life. I think that when I am that aged I will hopefully be in a place in my life that I feel content on how I have lived my life. As far as midlife crisis goes I think it is just something that we have heard so much from our parents, media, etc that we do not even know what means is truly. There is a social stigma that comes with saying I am going through a midlife crisis. For a man you think different job, younger wife, shiny car or “toy”. For a woman you think mood swings, hot flashes, and even trying to get pregnant again because this is the last time you will ever be able to. We must take away all the stigmas associated with mid-life crisis. Ashford, J. B., & LeCroy, C. W. (2013). Human Behavior in the Social Environment: A Multidimensional Perspective (5 ed.).
